Key Lessons from the Regional School for Political Development

The Regional School for Political Development, which over the past two years brought together 30 young leaders from Serbia, Croatia, and North Macedonia, has generated a number of important lessons about the role of new generations in shaping changes across the region.

  1. Dialogue is the foundation of development

Participants emphasized that open debate, mutual trust, and the willingness to listen to different perspectives are key to strengthening democratic institutions. The exchange of experiences across three countries showed that shared challenges require joint solutions.

  1. Green policies are not luxury, but a necessity

During study visits to Rijeka and the island of Krk, participants explored examples of circular economy and sustainable energy management. The conclusion is clear – the region must accelerate the green transition and include young people in decision-making on climate policies.

  1. Regional cooperation bring innovation

Through workshops and joint projects, participants demonstrated that cooperation between different societies and political systems fosters creative solutions and new perspectives, especially in the fields of green policies.

  1. Young people want to be part of decision-making

The School confirmed that young people have a clear vision for the future – they want transparent institutions, greater accountability from politicians, and the opportunity to influence policies that shape their lives.

  1. Networking is key to long-term impact

Beyond gaining knowledge, the greatest value of the project is the network of contracts and friendships that remain after program ends. This network serves as a foundation for future initiatives and regional projects that transcend borders.

The Regional School for Political Development has proven that young leaders in the region can be a driving force for a change. Their commitment to dialogue, green policies, and democratic values sends a clear message – the future lies in the hands of a generation ready to learn, cooperate, and take action.
